This year the Cultural Proficiency Institute was held at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. In attendance at this meaningful venue were participants from across the United States and Canada. Topics ranged from Culturally Proficient Learning Communities to Critical Leadership Principals to a Framework for Examining and Closing Educational Gaps.
The Project CONNECT website features many video lessons of teachers using globally responsive strategies, which support cultural proficiency. Utilization of these strategies promote the vision that every English Learner will be linguistically, academically and culturally proficient to succeed and engage in our global society.
Institutes such as the Cultural Proficiency Institute motivate us to dig deeper and examine how we can help transform our settings to focus on equity, engagement and excellence. I highly recommend this institute.

From Aug 1-3, I attended a podcasting institute at the Orange Cournty Dept conducted by Ted Lai. Lots of knowledge that I am processing with the intent of creating a podcast giving updates about the Project CONNECT website. It is the expectation that the CONNECT network will continue to grow and indeed become very interactive.
Note that the website has new video clips on the strategy page, Checkout the new Think Aloud video clip. The OCDE Lessons in Depth Link has new secondary lessons plans as well as some great fourth grade in depth video.
I’ll keep you posted when our new Academic Language and Writing Process videos get uploaded to the website. Ciao for now, D.
On day three of the Blogging Institute we have learned to create a Wiki. You’ll notice it on our edublog page.
At Project CONNECT we continue to strive to expand resources to teachers of English Learners. The project’s website will now be linked to the connect blog. I am currently attending a three day institute on Blogging and how it supports learning communities. Our professional network will now have the possibility to support each other through global communication! Will Richardson, learning leader at Connective Learning and the author of the recently released Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms confirms this on a post on his blog. I look forward to your comments and the posting of resources as well as updates to our Project CONNECT webiste.
